Currently loving: Barry M Matte Me Up

Barry M Liquid Lip Paints

I’ve welcomed lots of lovely things into my cruelty-free collection recently. I’m sure many of them will feature around here soon, but one in particular I’ve been loving so much I thought it deserved its own blog post.

The product in question is Barry M’s Matte Me Up Liquid Lip Paint. I received one of these from my lovely friend as part of a birthday present, and honestly from the first wear I was in love, so I couldn’t resist picking up another shade.

The two colours I have here are ‘On the Scene’, the brown-toned nude, and ‘Pop Up’, the beautiful bright pink. I’ve swatched them in the photo below so you can see the colour out of the tube (and the dreamy matte finish) – but they are pretty much an exact match of the colour you see in the packaging, which makes selecting your shades much easier.

The consistency of these is fairly wet during application and takes a couple of minutes to dry…so try not to get it on your teeth in that time because lol turns out that isn’t a good look. Once it is dry, that stuff isn’t moving. It has serious staying power; I put this on at 8am, did a day at work, drank countless cups of tea, ate lunch, and it was still going strong at 5pm. In fact, it still looked perfect – so I haven’t found there’s often a need to touch up throughout the day.

The finish of the lip paints is that beautiful velvety matte look and the colours are bold and punchy on the lips. I’ve never worn either of these without receiving a compliment on my lipstick, and since most lip products on me seem to disappear in a matter of minutes that’s been fun (aren’t people nice?!).

They are comfortable to wear and don’t feel heavy or tacky. I would definitely say they are non-drying, but they obviously aren’t hydrating (and neither would I expect them to be). If you’re the type to apply lipbalm frequently throughout the day like me, expect to feel the urge to do that after a few hours wear. I usually don’t because obviously it sort of ruins the ‘matte’ thing, but if you’re not fussed about it the product actually wears very well with lipbalm over the top too!

There are five shades in the Matte Me Up range; a brown toned nude, a pink toned nude, a red, a bright pink and a more purplely pink, so they’ve got the key bases covered even though there aren’t many of them. You can actually buy these with a liner as a lip kit now in a couple of different shades. Due to how liquid the paint is it’s actually a great shout to pair it with a liner for a neater application, particularly if you are 1) a lip perfectionist or 2) a bit of a make up idiot like me. It’s not strictly necessary though – I’ve been getting on with the paints fine without.

P.S. sorry for the cliche af marble background, I sort of love it but also hate myself.

  1. Oooh these look good, I’m currently using the Bourjois Velvet Matte lipsticks which look really similar to these, but once they run out I need a cruelty free replacement so these are definitely something I’ll be picking up (along with the whole rest of the Barry M counter if I’m honest)

  2. I haven’t tried anything from Barry M yet (of course we don’t have it in Italy and we have to order its products somewhere) but I’ve always been intrigued by this brand. The nude shade is gorgeous! x

    1. Oooh I’m not sure, I haven’t tried the matte lip creams from NYX, just the lip butters and glosses (which I also love!). Exactly the same for me, i’m discovering so much good stuff from them! 🙂 xxx

    1. They really do last incredibly, I’ve been so impressed (especially as they’re like a fiver each too, so cheap for such good staying power!) Thanks so much 🙂 xx
